Elena "Baklava" Hristova is a founding member of the group of the same name, which combines traditional Balkan sounds with modern musical elements. Baklava has been active in the world music scene for over 20 years and with five successful albums, known for their unique performances and the use of traditional instruments such as the tambura, kaval, and daf. With these nine new songs, Elena Baklava launches her solo career, describing this project as a deep personal experience inspired by her interaction with the descendants of the Yoruks – nomads of Turkmen origin who settled in Macedonia in the 14th century. "Yorukluk" celebrates boundless creativity by combining traditional motifs and instruments with reconstructed and newly created melodies, unique complex irregular rhythms, contemporary musical expression, and electronic sounds. The central motif is Elena Baklava's personal journey, which is based on her anthropological, ethnological, and ethnomusicological research. "Yorukluk" is the first part of a trilogy that Elena Baklava plans to release in the coming years.
