Ostaritutkimuksia = Shopping mall investigations

Ostaritutkimuksia-hanke tarkastelee yhteiskunnallis-taloudellisen murroksen heijastumista kaupunkikuvaan vanhojen helsinkiläisten ostoskeskusten kautta.

In the Finnish urban planning of the 1950s-70s, the shopping centre was established as the focal point of new suburban areas in the spirit of modernism. Later, these buildings have fallen into disrepair, and now many of them are being demolished to make room for new construction.

The Shopping Mall Investigations project examines the impact of socio-economic change in the cityscape through old shopping centres in Helsinki. In this book, invited researchers and artists explore the history, present, and future of the shopping centre phenomenon. The book also serves as documentation of the art and research programme organized at the Konalanvuori shopping centre in summer 2022.
