Nico Muhly and The Tallis Scholars present ‘No Resting Place’, a collection of world premiere recordings of works that Muhly wrote for the ensemble over the last decade. Director Peter Phillips notes that Muhly immediately understood their particular sound, resulting in a succession of powerful masterpieces. The title work sets Jeremiah’s Lamentations alongside contemporary interviews with the Windrush generation, while Rough Notes draws from Captain Scott’s Antarctic diary using austere counterpoint and unstable harmonies. The album also features Prosperitie, written for Phillips’ 70th birthday, and the soul-praising A Glorious Creature.
