Nine-year-old Kissimmee Parr spends the summer of 1894 in a big house called Pristol Hall in Newport, Rhode Island. Her mother tells her to "be proper" in front of other people in society, but Kissimmee hates to be proper. She wants to have fun and breaks all the rules society makes.
