This book describes and analyses in detail EU law in the area of Justice and Home Affairs, covering the topics of crime, policing, immigration and asylum at EU level. It looks at the extensive law in each area, which has developed greatly since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In particular, it examines the tension in this area between the goal of protecting human rights on the one hand and the desire to control migration and fight serious crime on the other.
