Filin (cd)
22,80 €
Chilean-born tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana has long harbored the desire to record a ballads album. Inspired by archetypes like John Coltrane’s 1963 classic Ballads, Aldana viewed this slow-tempo project as a way to further her lifelong quest for "sound"—not technical flash, but the emotive resonance and shifting colors of her saxophone.
The result is Filin, named after a Cuban musical tradition that emerged in the late 1940s. Derived from the word "feeling," filin bridges the gap between traditional Cuban trova, the bolero, and jazz. For Aldana, these songs offered a deeply personal connection; while they felt like the standards of the Great American Songbook, the Spanish lyrics allowed her to connect to the music in her native tongue.
