Ghost Coach

Ghost Coach is the award-winning story of high school English teacher Belva Lowry, who is married to the school's athletic coach. Following her husband's death, Belva surreptitiously tutors one of her students in the rudiments of basketball, helping him to make the team and eventually shine. But her coaching adventures and influence don't end there. Author Harold K. Moon captures the small-town flavor of his boyhood haunts in this story of warmth, humor, and compassion. More than a mere novel about high school basketball, Ghost Coach is a book that will appeal to and inspire readers of all ages. "A novel that held my attention throughout. . . . Very direct and appealing, despite a complex construction and a surprise [ending]. The characters . . . are real and individual. . . . Of all the novels I read for the competition, this is the one I found most memorable." -- Leslie Norris, Judge, Utah Arts Council
