Young David Balfour is kidnapped, to be carried away to a life of slavery in the Americas, after escaping being murdered. On board the ship he meets Alan Breck, a Jacobite, but they are shipwrecked off the coast of Scotland. When the two friends witness the murder of Colin Campbell, they are chased across the Highlands.
