The Romans have been credited with giving Britain a network of roads that still has a profound effect on our road systems, so Discover Roman Derbyshire, 25 walks sets out to trace those roads on foot in the same manner that the Roman soldiers did when they occupied the region between the 1st and 5th centuries. The roads linked forts with their accompanying vici, busy trading centres where industry prospered similar to our present day towns. The walks not only include the roads, forts and vici, they also trace localities where finds have been discovered.
