In 1947, a collection of ancient manuscripts was found in caves just south of Jericho, on the edge of the Dead Sea. Written by a persecuted Jewish sect, the Qumran Essenes, the Scrolls give insights into the world of Jesus and place the rise of Christianity into its historical context.
