The collection is the third in a series of five-year books that began when Ironbiter, as a way of reorienting toward old age upon turning seventy, took Buddhist refuge and the bodhisattva vow. Whereas her previous writing developed from her mythopoetic contemplations and studies in mysticism, the five-year books are affected by her engagement with Buddhist theory and practice.
