The text is divided into three parts: the context, the process and the management of employee development. The first part examines developments in ED, the national context, with international comparisons, and the organisational context. The second part evaluates various models of ED and the analysis, design and implementation of ED activities, including a thorough treatment of learning theory. The third part concentrates on ED policy and resourcing.
