This book presents the results of an archaeological investigation of a Neolithic site near Nenagh, County Tipperary. Conducted in advance of the construction of a link between the N7 and N52 roads, it uncovered an enclosed Neolithic settlement at Tullahedy. The site was located on an esker with Neolithic activity dated to between 3670-3460. The settlement comprised three Neolithic houses, two within a natural hollow and a third near a former lakeshore. One of the more remarkable aspects of the investigation was the excavation of 370 pits. Finds from the pits included polished stone axe-heads, arrowheads, scrapers, pottery and charred plant remains, including evidence for wheat and barley cultivation and for early flax growing. A later phase of activity is represented by the introduction of 1m-thick layers of glacial till onto the lower slopes which altered the mound contours. Lavishly illustrated, this volume presents the findings in an attractive and comprehensive manner.
