Rathlin Island has an aura of remoteness. It is only a few miles off the north coast of Antrim, and yet it is separated from the mainland by treacherous seas. Numerous shipwrecks have given the waters of Rathlin Sound a reputation as a graveyard, and the island itself has a turbulent history to match. Today Rathlin is a popular tourist destination, and the traveller is sure of a friendly welcome. On clear days in spring and summer the views along the dramatic coastline are stunning, wild flowers are everywhere, the cliffs are alive where seabirds and seals can often be seen.
