In the present volume, a modest sheaf of arrows in gathered from the rabbinical quiver. Their aim is simply to entertain, primarily the select but constantly widening circle of those interested in Oriental themes, and then the intelligent reading public that will perhaps find something novel at least in these stories, which illustrate some phases of life and thought in old Judaea, and yet are not wholly foreign to the culture and tendencies of our own age. Nor are they without a certain educational value for the young, embodying virtues which must always be emphasized. Their atmosphere is one of genial humanity.
