Set against the backdrop of Tasmania's ancient Styx Valley forests, eighteen-year-old Reeva Castor has sacrificed everything to care for her alcoholic father, Emmett. Trapped by a self-imposed burden of duty, Reeva has given up on her dreams of another life, knowing that liberty would come with a measure of guilt too difficult to bear.


So, when Emmett goes missing, Reeva is determined to find him. But the forests are dangerous. Dark and primordial, they house magical beings who, unseen by humans, wage a desperate war. The changers, a slave race, want freedom from oppression whereas wilders, elemental in nature, fight to maintain their continued way of life.


And the natural world hangs in the balance.


For Reeva to save Emmett, she must choose a side. But when it comes to wilders and changers, it's hard to tell the villains from the victims.
